You’re invited to join Regis University’s Mile-High MFA Creative Writing faculty and students for poetry and prose revision workshops open to writers of all levels. Bring your writing to new heights as you discuss best practices in writing, network and make new friends.

The two-hour writing studio features authors Eric Baus and Mario Acevedo, who will be on hand to help critique and shape your writing.

Event Agenda:

1-2pm: Craft Seminars

Option 1: Poetry Workshop w / Eric Baus (limit to 25 participants)

Location: Claver Hall, 315

The Poem as Letter / The Letter as Poem: The literary form of the letter invites us to investigate ourselves and the world through the framework of intimate address. It allows us to bring the unknown a little closer and to breathe new life into the seemingly familiar. Letters are immediately accessible while also providing ample space for nuanced thought and complex dialogue. In the examples we will read and listen to in this seminar, the range of addressees include imagined ancestors, public figures, animals, various abstractions and inanimate objects as well as the workings of language itself.

Option 2: Prose Workshop w/ Mario Acevedo (limit to 50 participants)

Location: Claver Hall, 315

Start With The Diamond: The Premise of a Great Story: Your brain is bursting with ideas for a wonderful story—your big breakthrough. But you’ve been here before. A hundred pages into the manuscript, you peter out. Those great ideas stagnate and your narrative turns into a soggy mess. We’ll discuss how theme and character motivation drive the plot, then use writer prompts to analyze your story idea to find the true premise--the diamond--that you can build your manuscript around.

2-2:15pm: Coffee Break

2:15-2:30pm: Introduction to Mile-High MFA with Eric Baus & Andrea Rexilius

2:30-3:00: MFA Q&A

3:00-3:30pm: Meet with the faculty.

*Optional: Bring a 5 page sample to discuss with the program directors.
